Panchajanya Dey, devoted performer and practitioner of Indian classical music ( Hindustani classical flutist ), was inclined towards music from a very tender age . Being a first generation musician of his family, it was quite a difficult choice for him to opt Indian classical music as his profession , however, his fervent confidence and great determination prompted him to explore this new path and owing to his rigorous diligence and vigour he has successfully established himself in this sphere . It has been a common notion that Indian classical music is becoming an " dying art " and its commercial viability is very bleak , but Panchajanya Dey , being the maverick that he is , deliberately tries to decimate this regressive notion and tries to present classical music in such a way that the it appeals to a huge number of audience , however , the immaculate purity of the form is also adhered to .Music is said have a universal language , which directly communicates with soul - Panchajanya Dey's recitation defines this statement.

Uniqueness

He is the first flutist in Hindustani classical music to play two octaves of a flute simultaneously in a single blow - the first proponent of " double octave ".

He experiments with the form in such a way that it suits the modern time , consequently, apart from accomplishing appreciation from the old generation the music also becomes relatable to the younger generation. , however, the purity of this form is adeptly adhered to.

Learnings

Sri Sakti Pada Nag

Panchajanya Dey learned the basics of flute from Sri Sakti Pada Nag ( disciple of Sri Nilu Dasgupta and Utsad Ali Ahmed Hussain Khan ) Panchajanya has industriously learned the ' Gayaki Ang ' from him under the school of Vishnupur Gharana . It was Sri Salktipada Nag who for the first time discerned the talent within him . The love and commiseration that he showed while teaching inspired Panchajanya to discover the artist with in him through flute.

Pt. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay

For advanced training Panchajanya Dey went to Pt. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay - majority of whose learning was under Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra and Pt. Bimalendu Mukherjee under the school of Senia-Shahjehanpur, Imdadkhani and Rampur -Senia. Panchajanya was exposed to a wide variety of music through him. With his arduous dedication Panchanjaya acquired the profound knowledge and the delicate essence of this traditional form of music .


He took his vocal training under Sri Shyamal Bhattacharya(Disciple of A.Kanan and Pt. Jagdish Prasad) . For light classical music he took training from Smt. Rakhi Bandopadhyay . Sri Chittapriya Chowdhury(grand disciple of Pt. Kishan Maharaj) provided him the training of tabla under the school of Benaras.

Apart from being an exponent of Hindustani classical music , he is well exposed to western music and has meticulously learnt western classical guitar, piano and harmonica .
